The source of the product idea
Flexible humanoid robotics has been a passion with Richard for many years
and his team has been working on this theme for two decades. The ultimate
dream is a full, human-size totally versatile robot, but they have undertaken
some sub-projects along the way. The main one of these is a high-quality,
five-fingered hand with all of the movements, strength and speed of the
human hand.
The team are driven by the ultimate value that humanoid robots might
have for humanity, by their excitement at their potential and a determination
to produce something that satisfies them - rather than by the money to
be made from manufacturing them.
As a result of this passion and their perseverance an independent robot
enthusiast's Web site at one time rated their project as the fourth best
in the World's Greatest Android Projects. The two Japanese universities
ahead of them had far more resources to commit to their work, as does
MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology), the prestigious American
university that is ranked fifth!
