Brush your teeth with a lolly stick! An idea grown from past experience

Idly looking at a lolly stick that his son had left lying around, Jonathon Savitt started thinking. Quite how the lolly stick started this line of thinking he doesn't know but what he came up with was a revolutionary new toothbrush!

Of course, having worked as a dental technician for many years you could say his mind was tuned to toothbrushes. He knew that there were high rates of re-infection of gum diseases due to residues left in toothbrushes. He also wanted a product for high-volume production (G) that everyone might use - and buy.

The key idea was to have a hole through the head of the brush. So he cut the stick, cut some bristles from an old toothbrush, and added them and Eureka! the idea was born.

  Task 1 - A quick task Eureka!

The idea came from a concern Jonathan had to get people to rinse their toothbrushes more thoroughly without having to change their habits. He knew that the majority of the sediment left from old toothpaste and junk from people's teeth remained in the middle third of the brush. A hole would remove this trap and allow water to wash through. So the toothbrush was designed - what next? The answer, of course, was a great deal of detailed design development and testing.
