"I don’t know how people do it, if they have to carry
the shopping back with the buggy on the bus. I just couldn’t
do it." -Vittoria Hawksworth
"People say to me: How do you do it? How do you do it? And
I say: Well, you just have to do it."
- Manjeet Kaur
These two quotes from the documentary film ‘How people do
it’ give an insight into the isolation and desperation parents/carers
with young children feel, given the current barriers to using public
transport in London. The project’s overall message is that
along with improving design and planning, we must change people’s
attitudes to create more accessible cities. Would life be easier
if more people helped parents with buggies? Or should the design
of the bus and Tube network automatically accommodate their needs.
Products can be a powerful influence on the way we live our lives
and on our health and well being. Can designers of technology products
capitalise on this through interaction with the user?
