| For the South Wales couple assembling small-scale
electronic components on their kitchen table, the Research Associate
created a series of vacuum-formed plastic trays in a soft foam base
to organise the process into simple steps. The design of the trays
was informed by study of Japanese watchmakers at work. The tray
spouts enable the pouring of components from one stage of the process
to the next. Importantly, the trays stack and can be removed from
the table easily so a meal can be eaten.
For the Gosport women trimming rubber products in their living
rooms, a set of stiff paper bags were designed in bright colours
to blend with the domestic interior. These new bags replaced ugly,
dirty bags which were unstable and limp and tended to drop rubber
trimmings all over the floor.
For the West Yorkshire textile workers standing all day at the
kitchen sink, a simple, low-cost, workstool was designed in solid
beech. This stool has a rocker base, so its users can perch on them
during long hours at the sink.
