Last week RED went to Florida on a study visit looking at exciting new practice in public health and we learnt about Silver Sneakers. This business provides access to gyms and fitness centres for older people. Its a great idea.

Its free to older people because health insurance companies pay for their members to join the programme. They do this to try and keep their members healthy and fit thus reducing the costs of health care. Silver sneakers are able to buy cheap access to gyms and sports facilities during quiet times of the day -exactly when older people can use them! Everyone is a winner! Healthier older people - lower healthcare costs - sports facilities that are used all the time. Find out more here.
